Luren, 1978-1987
- 1978:Luren sings at Sangerfest in Minneapolis.
- 1979:On June 24th, Luren embarks on a week-long tour to the north, presenting concerts in Strum, WI; Duluth, MN; Winnipeg, Manitoba, the International Peace Gardens; and Fergus Falls, MN with non-concert stops at Rugby, ND and Concordia College, Moorhead, MN. In the Fall, a concert is presented at Elstad Lutheran Church (MN) in conjunction with the congregation’s 125th anniversary.
- 1980: Luren appears at Nordic Fest with the Luther College Orchestra, performing “Landkjenning” by Grieg- at two concerts Saturday afternoon and evening.
- 1980: A group of 81, including 46 Luren singers, travel to the NSAA Sangerfest in Sioux Falls, SD.
- 1980: The annual Fair Stand nets $3995 for Luren. Membership in the Luren Singers stands at 52. Dues are increased from $12 to $15 annually.
- 1981: A tour of Wisconsin and Door County includes concerts at Cambridge (East Koshkonong), Orfordville (Luther Valley), Clinton (Jefferson Prairie), DeForest (Spring Prairie), West Allis (Mt. Hope), Sturgeon Bay (Bay View), Wittenberg (Redeemer), and River Falls (Rush River). Announced as a “Good Will Tour” the concerts are presented without charge, but with opportunity for free will offering. The tour ends with a net loss of $2215. The Luren Stand at the Winneshiek County Fair nets $3915.
- 1981: Luren concert appearances include Gunder, Ossian (Stavanger), Decorah (St. Benedict’s), Decorah Sons of Norway, Waukon, Caledonia, West Clermont, Waterloo, Decorah Nordic Fest, Spillville, and the Christmas Concert at Big Canoe.
- 1982:Luren sings at Sangerfest in Rockford, IL. Concerts and engagements include Scheie Lutheran Church, East Paint Creek, Decorah Lutheran, Luther College, and the Christmas Concert at St. Benedict’s. The Fair Stand profit is $4142. Luren makes a record which sells for $8.75 (public), and $5.75 (members).
- 1983:Luren’s third Norway Tour: After a bon voyage concert at Luther’s CFL, Luren sings at Skarnes, Drammen, Skien, Kongsberg, Oslo, Gran, Honefoss, Fagerness and Bergen.
- 1983: Concert venues include the CFL at Luther, Elgin, Eldorado, Caledonia, Waukon, Highland (MN) and Hawkeye, with the Christmas Concert at Harmony.
- 1984: Luren sings at Sangerfest in St. Charles, Il. Concerts and engagements for the year include West Union, IA (Zion), Decorah Lutheran, Spring Grove, MN (Trinity), La Crosse, WI (Our Saviors), and Waterloo, IA (Trinity).
- 1985: Luren tours Iowa. Engagements for the year include Cedar Rapids, Arlington, Oelwein, St. Olaf, West Union, with the Christmas Concert at Lanesboro.
- 1986: Luren hosts the Sangerfest in Decorah. Singing engagements during the year include Lake Mills, Osage, Mabel, Old West Paint Creek, First Lutheran (Decorah), Mt. Sterling, WI, Luther College (12SthAnniversary), Ridgeway, Sumner, with the Christmas Concert and party hosted at Decorah Lutheran.
- 1987: Luren tours Minnesota. The year’s engagements include Ossian (Stavanger), Strawberry Point, Story City, Fayette County Fair, West Union (Methodist Church), with the Christmas Concert at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah.
